A message from the Premier
Welcome to the 2008 Victorian Premier's Reading Challenge!
At the beginning of this school year, I renewed my invitation to Victorian students in Prep to Year 9 to take up the challenge of reading a specified number of books by 31 August 2008. I also invited Year 10 students to take part in the Challenge for the first time.
More than 210,000 students from 1,300 schools committed once again to take up the Reading Challenge. This included 3,400 Year 10 readers and more than 20,000 children in Prep exploring reading at school for the first time.
I am delighted to report that over 115,000 students completed this year’s Challenge.
The Reading Challenge is now closed.
I would like to congratulate every student who took part, as well as the many thousands of adults who helped them. I also applaud our Reading Challenge ambassadors, sponsors, principals, teachers, librarians in schools and public libraries, booksellers and publishers for their support for this important and rewarding program.
Thank you for making the 2008 Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge a continuing success.
Hon John Brumby MP
Premier of Victoria
